Kitchen Update, Island and Laundry Room

A customer approached me with an idea for a mobile island for their kitchen. We talked about their desires and sketched up a custom design to meet their needs. They wanted a pullout trashcan on the right side, a couple of drawers on the front and a pullout spice drawer on the left side. They also wanted it to be mobile, but also wanted it to be stationary when needed. But the challenge was they did not want visible casters. After some research, we settled on Bennington Retractable Casters for the project. I went with Knotty Alder material with a Red Mahogany stain to match their flooring. I also added a matching Knotty Alder live edge floating shelf on the wall above the island. In their kitchen I also replaced their trash compacter with some pull out shelves for some wire storage backets. They were also upgrading their oven and microwave to a double oven, and I needed to rebuild the frame and ensure the lower support was strong enough to hold the new oven.

Another part of the project was to update their laundry room to make it more functional since they were upgrading the washer/drier to a stacked unit. I removed the old cabinets and soffits above the uppers to give more head room. On the sink side, I built the lowers with Knotty Alder to match the island and tie the rooms together. I also created a couple of floating shelves above the sink for display of customers pottery. On the laundry side, I created uppers for storage and the microwave as well as a lower storage cabinet for laundry supplies. In addition, customer wanted to add crown molding in the laundry area.
