A few months ago, a prior customer referred their friends to me about building some custom bookshelves and cabinets for their office space in their new home. The home has 10′ ceilings throughout and the wall where they wanted the built-in was 14-1/2′ wide. They had already planned to install a TV in the center of the wall and had the electrical and cables wired and ready. For the wood, they settled on a Select Alder (minimal knots) and a dark “Kona” stain with a Satin Polyurethane finish. Shelves were constructed with front/rear solid wood for stability – this was especially needed due to the number of books in their library. All shelves are adjustable with shelf-pins. The lower cabinets were set up to accommodate their office setup – There is a slide-out printer drawer on the left and 2 drawers for hanging files on the right. The lower center sections also have an adjustable shelf. There was an air-return vent in the ceiling, so we made the decision to only go as high as 9′ to allow space for adequate air circulation.
