Cedar Stump End-Table # 3

A number of years ago, I was fortunate to acquire two large Texas Cedar tree (Ash Juniper) trunks. After air-drying them for 5+ years, I rough cut them to shape with my chainsaw, and then flattened the sides/top with my custom router sled. This is the 3rd end-table from this large trunk. There were hollow cavities from internal rot that were cleaned and filled with a “deep-pour” epoxy that was tinted with 2 different shades of blue mica dust pigment. The ant holes and trails were sanded to remove rough edges, but still leaves visible markings and character.

This end-table was sanded and finished with a satin wipe-on polyurethane finish to establish the protection inside the surface of the wood instead of a pure surface sealant. Since these may get some abuse as end-tables, they needed extra protection. The dimensions of the end-table are 11-1/2″ x 14-1/2″ and 25″ high. It weighs in at a hefty 88 pounds – one very solid piece of furniture.
