Aromatic Cedar Blanket Chest

I recently built a headboard for a customer for their king-sized bed. They had an old Lane Cedar Chest that had gotten badly damaged by water and wanted to know if I could repair. It was so badly damaged, that it was more cost-effective to build a new one that matched their new headboard. They wanted to put it at the foot of the bed. We discussed dimensions and features that they desired (matching existing headboard, padded bench top, torsion hinges to keep from slamming on little fingers, etc).

The construction is solid 3/4″ Aromatic Red Cedar boards with an exterior 1/2″ pine cladding that matches the wood, trim and stain color of the headboard. I selected Rockler Torsion hinges since I have good experience with them over the years. The top has a removable 1/2″ plywood covered in 1-1/2″ foam pad and is attached with screws from the underside of the lid. This allows for easy fabric change when that time comes.
