Farm Egg Storage Trays

Our daughter now has some laying chickens and I saw an image of some storage trays for keeping them organized on the counter. The idea is that fresh eggs go on the bottom tray and you use eggs from the top tray. This allows the batches to be cycled – first in first out. Each tray hold 18 eggs and they are stack-able, so that when the top tray is empty, it is rotated to the bottom of the stack to be refilled. There are protruding dowels on the top of each end that align with holes on the bottom of the ends for stability. Since we sometimes get their overflow, I made some for our home as well. The wood that I used was some Aromatic Red Cedar that I had on hand – it is finished with several coats of WatCo Natural Danish Oil finish.
