I had a customer who was doing a full kitchen remodel and wanted some floating shelves to match her exposed beams. I was able to determine stud locations before tile went up to ensure the supports were securely fastened. Since her beams were Western Cedar, we went with that for the shelves as well. I used steel shelf supports and screwed them to the wall, then installed the mounting blocks. The shelves slid over the mounting blocks and were fastened in place with glue and Pin nails. Each of the 4 shelves were 12″ deep, 2″ thick and 22″ wide.
